Bellingham Review essays among The Best American Essays 2014 notables

The Best American Essays 2014 hit the shelves earlier this month, and its annual “Notables” list included two essays published in Bellingham Review. John Jeremiah Sullivan, author of Pulphead, selected and introduced this year’s collection of essays. Notable essays were honored on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s website.

Among the Bellingham Review essays recognized as notables, Anittah Patrick’s essay, “The Math,” was the 2013 Annie Dillard Award for Creative Nonfiction winner and published in Issue 66 of Bellingham Review.

Judge Sheila Bender introduced the essay, saying, “Since it is through living and sharing conversations, both literary and in real time, that any of us discover who we are, it is a pleasure to journey in ‘The Math’ to the realization that becoming adult requires seeing the wider context of our parents’ ways.”

Patti Crouch’s essay “Sea Change” also appeared in Issue 66 and was listed as a notable.

Editor-in-chief Brenda Miller’s essay “Dress Code” (Passages North, Winter 2013) was also honored as a notable.
