Dear ICE

by Adriana Garcia

I’ve known of your existence
from the time I was 4 years old.
You were always told to me
like a scary story, something
from a dark fairy tale. But one day
you came for us. You knocked
on the front door and put my father
in shackles. When I saw you, I knew
the monsters were real. You dislocated
my family for years, and I still think
of you daily. One question I always
have for you: How can you
live with yourself?
