David Scherrer:

I took the photograph “Grave” in October in the very southeast corner of Washington State, at the cemetery near the town of Asotin, population about one thousand, near the Snake River.  The cemetery is about a mile southwest of Asotin on a lonely dry open hillside off Highway 129.
It’s an isolated spot overlooking rolling agricultural planes, open skies, and the winding Snake River. Birds often roost in the sparse trees while the warm breeze rustles through the leaves and grass. The Asotin cemetery is a peaceful and contemplative resting place.

DAVID SCHERRER arrived in the Northwest from the east coast in the early 1970’s. Drawn initially by Huxley College’s Environmental Studies program (at Western Washington University), he soon realized the potential for the integration of media production and environmental education, two areas of study he was passionate about. He completed his undergraduate education at WWU and continues to maintain connection with Western through his photography.
